Gordon Parks…a true Renaissance man

(November 30, 1912 – March 7, 2006)

I stand in amazement of the figures that have recently passed on from the scene (e.g. Coretta Scott King, et al).  I remember as a child hearing about Gordon Parks and his contribution to what I call the black prophetic canon.  He will be missed.  His voice and contribution to the arts and social change will be remembered for a long time.

  1. He lived a prophetic life.

We are losing the great ones and I’m wondering if we have or will produce anyone worthy of their legacies.
    Thanks for this memorial.

  2. I like your site in a lot of ways.

One thing that struck me is your proud use of the term negro.
What happend to this inncouous label? Why did it suddenly become ‘Politically Incorrect’?
After all, it is the same class of labels as caucasian etc.
Always in my mind no more offensive than words like:
    Blonde, redheaded, brunette
    Tall, short, medium height
    Obese, thin, medium build
    Male, female

Congratulations for not cluttering your thoughtful, intelligent, insightful musings with the clutter of Political Correctness which is really only the inversely named tool of division and strife.

    Take care,
    God Bless.
